An unusual LED clock



The clock in action

This clock was based on the design by Bob Blick. The clock is a 7 LED array driven by a PIC 16F84. The entire circuit is rotated by an electric motor, which provides the horizontal scanning required to produce the dot-matrix character display.

The mechanical aspects of this project proved more challenging than the electronics. First one has to find and modify a suitable electric motor [I scavenged one from an old tape drive after dismantling several unsuitable candidates]. Once it's running, one then has to try and balance it sufficiently that it doesn't shake itself to pieces...
